The Board of Control for Cricket in India Cricket Board (BCCI) will
consider the International Cricket Council's threat of penalties for
calling off the proposed tour of Pakistan early next year, at its
special general meeting in Calcutta on November 29, according to Board
secretary Jaywant Lele.
The meeting which has been called to discuss BCCI Anti Corruption
Commissioner K Madhavan's report after his examination of the five
cricketers and others named in the CBI report on betting and matchfixing, will also deliberate on the fallout of the cancellation of the
Pakistan tour following the government's veto, Lele told PTI on phone
from Baroda today.
Board President AC Muthiah is away in Singapore on a business visit
and could not be contacted for his reaction.
The 11-day gap will also give time for the Board to plan out its
strategy to combat the threat as its former President Raj Singh
Dungarpur, now in Lahore to attend ICC's Marketing and Finance
Committee meeting, will be back before that with first hand
information on the happenings there.
Soon after his arrival in Lahore yesterday, ICC chief Malcolm Grey had
said cricket's apex body may consider a financial penalty against
India for canceling the tour.
Gray even went a step further by threatening suspension of India from
playing against any other Test-playing country. "That sanction really
can only be either financial or ultimately to suspend their membership
from playing against any other Test-playing country," he said. "This
would put pressure back on the government to review the decision,"
Gray said.
