New Delhi - Brian Lara, who announced last week he was taking a short
break from cricket, has been chosen to captain a Rest of the World
team against an Asian XI in a special match in Dhaka on April 9.
The match will be a highlight of a series of week-long events starting
on April 2.
The series is aimed at raising awareness of the sport and increasing
its popularity, International Cricket Council (ICC) president Jagmohan
Dalmiya said yesterday.
Two squads of 12 were selected for the match by a panel comprising Ian
Chappell, Tony Greig, Sunil Gavaskar, Mike Proctor and Asif Iqbal.
The final XI will be named on match day by Asif and the captain and
vice-captain of each team.

Asia XI - Wasim Akram (captain), Sanath Jayasuriya (vice-captain),
Saeed Anwar, Sachin Tendulkar, Aravinda de Silva, Ajay Jadeja, Abdur
Razzaq, Moin Khan, Robin Singh, Anil Kumble, Muthiah Muralitharan,
Shoaib Akhtar.
Rest of the World XI - Brian Lara (captain), Mark Waugh
(vice-captain), Adam Gilchrist, Jacques Kallis, Michael Bevan, Neil
Johnson, Lance Klusener, Chris Cairns, Daniel Vettori, Curtly Ambrose,
Allan Donald, Andy Caddick.
