Busta Cup: Confident Trinidad here to face Jamaica
Trinidad and Tobago's Busta Cup team manager, Ellis Lewis, is
confident his team will do well against Jamaica in the third round
Busta Cup match which starts at Sabina Park tomorrow despite the lack
of practice since their opening game.
"Our last game against the Windward Islands was abandoned after just a
day and a half because of the unseasonal rain in Trinidad and we have
lost much needed practice," Lewis said as the Trinidad and Tobago team
had their first session at Sabina Park shortly after arriving in the
island yesterday.
"Playing Jamaica at home is always going to be very tough. We have our
work cut out but if we play well we should get past them," Lewis
concluded.
Members of the Trinidad and Tobago team flew to Jamaica after
persistent rains soaked the field at Queens Park Oval. Other suitable
fields in the twin island republic were being used for carnival
celebrations and a decision was taken on Wednesday to move the match
to Sabina Park.
The Trinidad and Tobago squad includes West Indies fast bowler Mervyn
Dillon and discarded Test players captain Ian Bishop, David Williams
and middle order batsman Phil Simmons. Also returning to the Trinidad
and Tobago side after injury is veteran opener Suruj Sagoonath.
Trinidad are on 20 points, four more than Jamaica. Barbados are the
Busta Cup leaders with the maximum 32 points.
Full squad: Ian Bishop (captain), Leon Romero, Anil Balliram,
Denis Rampersad, Phil Simmons, Richard Smith, Lincoln Roberts, David
Williams, Marlon Black, Asif Jan, Mervyn Dillon, Mukesh Persad,
Avidesh Samaroo and Vishal Persad-Maharaj.
