Derby: Shivnarine Chanderpaul could be batting again in less than a
week, but he is still almost certain to miss the fourth Test against
England at Headingley, Leeds, starting a week today. Chanderpaul had a
scan in Leeds on Tuesday on the damaged right forearm tendons that
have prevented him from even practising since the second Test ended on
June 30.
Manager Ricky Skerritt said the doctor reported it showed a tremendous
amount of healing.
'He has asked to have a look at it again when we get to Leeds on
Monday before making a final ruling on Shiv's condition,' he said.
Skerritt pointed out that left only three days before the Test and,
given that Chanderpaul would have had no cricket in five weeks, it was
unrealistic to expect him to be ready for the fourth Test.
'The logical scenario is that he would be ready to play the four-day
match against Somerset prior to the final Test at the Oval (starting
August 29) and be ready for the Test,' he added.
