The International Cricket Council confirmed today that following a detailed legal review of the situation in relation to the governance of the game in Sri Lanka it would recognise the Interim Committee appointed by the Sri Lanka Government as the lawfully appointed body empowered to conduct the affairs of Sri Lanka Cricket.
The ICC Chief Executive, Malcolm Speed, has sent out an advisory to other ICC members stating that the ICC's legal advice is clear in saying that the ICC should accept the new body as the organisation currently responsible for running the game in Sri Lanka.
"Please be advised that ICC acknowledges that the Interim Committee has been duly appointed by the Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs in accordance with Sri Lankan law and, accordingly, ICC is required to recognise the Interim Committee as the body lawfully conducting the affairs of Sri Lanka Cricket," said Mr Speed.
The decision comes after the Minister exercised his powers under local laws and suspended the office bearers of Sri Lanka Cricket and appointed an Interim Committee which is now properly authorised to run cricket in Sri Lanka.
In his note Mr Speed goes on to advise all countries of the members of the Interim Committee including its Chairman, Mr Jayantha Dharmadasa, and Secretary, Mr Tryphon Mirando.
