Boscobel Beach Hotel gained their first hold on the John Issa/Super
Clubs hotels cricket trophy when they beat Jamaica Grande on a faster
run rate in the final at Content Gardens Oval yesterday.
Scores: Jamaica Grande 214 all out off 41.2 overs (Tony Powell 64,
Ricardo Powell 49; Christopher Gayle four for 26, Valentine McKenzie
two for 32, Garth Breeze two for 56). Boscobel 174 for five off 36
overs (Dervin Morand 63, Gayle 54 not out, Breeze 36).
Boscobel won the toss and asked Jamaica Grande to take first strike.
Jamaica Grande never looked comfortable from the outset losing Wavell
Hinds (five), Dean Richards (five), Richard Hoilett (21) and Ricardo
Powell (49), to be reduced to 96 for four when Tony Powell joined the
fray.
Powell smashed three sixes and five fours in a 65 ball innings to
follow Ricardo Powells' 20 ball 49which includes five sixes and two
fours. The St. Catherine CC player shared in a eight-wicket
partnership of 80 with Ralston Rose who made 22 not out, as Jamaica
Grande realised a respectable score.
When Boscobel replied Morand and Kevin Riley shared in a 67 run
opening partnership which set up their victory.
Morand struck seven fours and three sixes and Riley four fours in his
18. Breeze chipped in with a busy 36 and Gayles' solid half-century
(five fours, one six), ensured that Boscobel run rate was 4.89 above
the Jamaica Grande 4.1.
