Jamaica: Five to be inducted into the Hall of Fame

Five of Jamaica's most outstanding sportsmen and sportswomen of
yesterday will be inducted into the Hall of Fame during a banquet at
the Hilton Hotel, New Kingston, this evening starting at 7:00.
The Hall of Fame, which was launched in 1989 and discontinued after
1990, has been revived by the Rotary Club of Kingston and the Sports
Development Foundation, and the five, to be selected from a field of
15 nominees, will join the 11 who were inducted in 1989 and 1990.
Prime Minister P.J. Patterson will be the guest speaker at the
function which promises to be a glittering affair worthy of Jamaica's
rich history in sport.
The 15 nominees from which the five will be selected represent
tennis, football, cricket, track and field, swimming, boxing, netball
and administration.
The 15 are Richard Russell - tennis, Sydney Bartlett, Lindy
Delapenha, Dudley Smith - football, Collie Smith, Jackie Hendriks,
Michael Holding - cricket, Don Quarrie, George Kerr, Keith Gardner,
Dr. Cynthia Thompson - track and field, Barrington Roper - swimming,
Bunny Grant - boxing, Valerie Blake - netball and G.C. Foster -
administrator.
