CRICKET: Carlton Baugh Jnr with an attacking 109 and Christopher
Hopwood with six wickets for 44 runs highlighted yesterday's
first day of the Sunlight Cup Group B semi-final round between
Bridgeport Comprehensive and Wolmer's Boys at Bridgeport.
In the other semi-final former champions St. George's College
and Jonathan Grant High were locked in a close battle at Emmet
Park.
At Emmet Park: Scores: Jonathan Grant 132 from 54.5 overs; St.
George's 72 for six after 30.1 overs.
Sent into bat, pacer Sheldon Smith and spinner Ramon Hutchinson
rocked Jonathan Grant's batting by claiming four wickets for 43
runs from 18 overs and three for 32 from 19 overs respectively
as the Spanish Town team was bundled out on the stroke of tea.
Jonathan Grant got off to a bad start losing opening batsman
Gerald Morgan with the score on nine when he became Smith's
first victim bowled for seven.
Andre O'Sullivan and opener Leroy Wilson completed a 51-run
stand before the former went for 34. Tamar Lambert, the Jonathan
Grant captain, did not last long. He was caught behind for four.
Wilson who retired hurt on 31 with the score on 92 for six, came
back to be top scorer with 35, while other useful contributions
came from Roshane Ferron (17) and Greg Hare (14).
St. George's openers Renaldo Fletcher (7) and Richard Gordon
(20) put on 27 before leg spinner Leon Rodney claimed three
quick as five wickets fell for only 17 runs. When badlight
stopped play the match was interestingly poised.
At Bridgeport High: Scores Wolmer's Boys 183 (Carlton Baugh Jnr
109; Chris Hopwood 6-44); Bridgeport Comprehensive 131 for five
(Martin Walker 51, Ryan Clarke 46 not out).
