Pak local: Domestic cricket to begin from Sept 1

Lahore: The 2000-2001 domestic cricket season will begin with the National Junior Grade-I and II championships simultaneously at different venues from Sept 1.

Top eight teams will take part in the Grade 1 event to be organised on single league system. The first day has been reserved for one-day matches and later the same teams will play a three-day match at the same venue.

The teams which are participating in the Grade-I competition are Karachi, Bahawalpur, Lahore, Gujranwala, Faisalabad, Rawalpindi, Islamabad and Peshawar.

In all, 29 one-day and as many three-day matches, included the final, will be played in the Grade I competition. Two top teams will play the one-day final on Oct 13 and later a four-day final from Oct 14 to 17. The venue, umpires and referee for the final will be announced, later.

Twenty-six district teams, included nine which are making their debut, are participating in the Grade-II championship. The new teams inducted in the Grade-II are Sialkot, Sheikhupura, Naseerabad, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Northern Area, Rahim Yar Khan, Federally Administrated Tribal Areas (FATA), Okara and Sahiwal. The teams have been divided into four groups. Top team of each group will qualify for the semi-finals to be held at different venues from Oct 6 to 8. The final is carded for Oct 11 to 14. The venues for the pre-final and finals will also be decided later.

The group "C" is comprises five teams while seven teams each are included in group "A", "B" and "D". The group "C" matches will be concluded on Sept 23 while the remaining group matches will conclude on Oct 3.

Each match will be of three-day duration and in all, 76 matches, included the final will be held in grade-II.

Pool A: Sahiwal, Azad Kashmir, Okara, Sargodha, Sialkot, Sheikhupura and Hazara.

Pool B: Kohat, Bannu, Malakand, Dera Ismail Khan, Mardan, Northern Areas and FATA.

Pool C: Quetta, Sibi, Makran, Kalat, Naseerabad.

Pool D: Hyderabad, Sukkur, Mirpur Khas, Larkana, Multan, Rahim Yar Khan and Dera Ghazi Khan.
