Women's cricket in Pakistan is set for a shake-up, the PCB has announced. In accordance with ICC guidelines, the PCB has been handed responsibility for bringing order to the women's game in Pakistan.
And they have announced a raft of proposals designed to bring order to the women's game that includes improved organisation at national and regional level, efforts to attract sponsors, and the appointment of a national convener for women's cricket. Meera Phailbus, who was principal of Kinnaird College, Lahore, for 32 years before her recent retirement, has been handed the convener's job.
The PCB was given jurisdiction over women's cricket in a bid to stamp out the in-fighting that has been rife among rival organisations who had been competing to be recognised as the official authority. Even at international level, there were arguments as to which team officially represented Pakistan.
According to our sources, attempts to negotiate at the table had ended in some disarray as some people walked out, while others were reported to have engaged in physical fights.
But, with the PCB now in charge of women's cricket, it is hoped that the women's game can move forward in Pakistan. And, alongside the appointment of the national convenor, a former Pakistan Test player, Imtiaz Ahmed, has been brought on board to act as advisor on the game.
