KARACHI, March 12: The Pakistan cricket team for the twin tour of
Sharjah and Sri Lanka will be announced next week, Chairman of
Selectors, Salim Altaf, said from Lahore.
"We can name the team any day between March 17 and 20," the former Test bowler said.
Salim Altaf, a noted commentator and expert, added that the team
will comprise 14 players and will remain unchanged for the
island`s trip.
Pakistan play Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe in the double-league Sharjah
contest between April 3 and 11 and leave for Sri Lanka for a
three-day match followed by two back-to-back Tests. "We will
name 14 players but if the PCB decided to send additional player/players, we will name accordingly," Altaf said,
adding: "It is the PCB which has to look after the financial aspect."
Salim Altaf said his panel was taking the 15th and 16th matches
as trials. "Our main objective will be to closely monitor the
form and fitness of the probables which comprise players who have
performed well at both the levels (international and domestic)."
The Chief Selector stated that the PCB has not informed him or
his colleagues regarding the availability of the players for the
two tours. "I don`t know about the fitness of Salim Malik or Inzamamul Haq nor I know if Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis and Mushtaq
Ahmad are available. But I don`t think PCB are at fault. I am
very busy with my professional duties with PIA as there is rush
because of Haj flights. "Nevertheless, I will get the clear picture on Thursday when he meet at the Qadhafi Stadium," Altaf
said.
