After finishing on 203 all out from 49.5 overs, PNG restricted Uganda to 9/202 in their allotted 50 overs to claim 11th place by a single run. This was PNG's second victory of the tournament, after defeating Oman in the preliminary stages.
The tournament, from which the top five teams progressed to the ICC Cricket World Cup 2007, proved a difficult and frustrating one for PNG.
Drawn in the same group as four countries that had previously participated in a World Cup, the quest for a top five finish was always going to be difficult.
Three of the five teams that qualified for the 2007 World Cup came from PNG's group - Scotland, Canada and Holland. The other two teams to qualify were Ireland and Bermuda.
