KARACHI, July 6: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) executive council
approved the list of players for the Pakistan Under-19 team on Sunday
which was not signed by any of the three selectors.
According to well placed sources in the cricket headquarters, the
original list of 20 players finalised by the selectors was signed by
the three selectors viz Abdul Raquib, Azhar Khan and Maazullah Khan.
An angry selector from the upcountry, requesting not be to quoted,
confirmed that the team announced was not the one which was finalised
by the selection committee.
"It did not include the names of Zahid Qayyum and Shakeel Nawaz.
Instead, we had picked Shiraz Haider and Faisal Iqbal. I don't know
how the team was changed," he said in a bitter tone.
The president of the Karachi City Cricket Association (KCCA) Nusrat
Azeem, who attended Sunday's meeting, confirmed that the team was not
signed by the selectors. "It was a plain sheet on which 20 names were
written. We approved the first 15 believing that they were the
unanimous choice of the selectors.
"The council requested that the selectors should also appear before
the meeting to brief us on the players. They (selectors) were not
called," Azeem said.
Azeem maintained that since there were no selectors, the council
approved the team that was circulated by the chief executive and the
secretary.
"After the meeting, I was told that the list has been tampered with.
If the team has been changed, it is very sad and needs investigations.
Whosoever is guilty of changing the side, should be disciplined,"
Azeem stated.
