Ponting named Australian one-day captain

RICKY PONTING has been named captain of the Australian one-day cricket team for the tour of South Africa and Zimbabwe.

ADAM GILCHRIST has been named vice-captain by the Australian Cricket Board.

The appointments follow STEVE WAUGH's shock axing as skipper earlier this week.
