Karachi, Aug 7: The Pakistan cricket selectors on Monday shortlisted
the probables to 20 from which the 14-man team for the Singapore
triangular series would be announced on Saturday.
However, the selectors retained 43 cricketers for the training camp
which is being held at the National Stadium. The selectors informed
the camp attendees of the decision and also informed the players that
those who have not been invited are not to attend the session from
Tuesday.
The notable omission from the list of 20 players is of Ijaz Ahmad who
had joined the camp on Saturday.
The selectors, however, refused to disclose as to which other
candidates are in line for the Singapore tour. However, it is learnt
that Hasan Raza is a certainty and will replace Inzamam-ul-Haq who
will not be in the team because of injury.
Pakistan captain Moin Khan also joined the camp on Monday but looked
uncomfortable with his nagging knee for which he had gone to England
to seek treatment.
Team coach Javed Miandad, who was expected to take over the charge of
the camp on Monday, didn't turn up. He is said to be still in England
and might return on Thursday.
The condition of the camp left much to be desired. After more than 100
innovated players ruined the last 10 days of the camp, on Monday there
were television artists and four television crews filming the
commercials and other things.
Such was the crowding in the ground that at least four players were
hit by drives from the batsmen as they could not gather the hit from
the batsmen. According to sources, the gates of entering the ground
through the main building had been closed on the instructions of the
coaches. But everyone allowed by the board officials stepped in.
