Karachi, Aug 9: Flamboyant opener Saeed Anwar has decided to
participate in the triangular one-day series to be played in Singapore
between Aug 20 and 28.
Saeed told Dawn late Wednesday evening that he made up his mind in the
evening and will be confirming his availability to the selectors on
Thursday.
"All I needed was to be sure that I am fit and can deliver the goods.
After two days of training, I consider myself in good physical shape.
"But the Singapore series would provide him the required match fitness
that I am missing," he said.
Saeed said his objective in the triangular series would be to run into
form. He said he had a good Test series in Sri Lanka but the form in
the triangular competition had slumped. he thought, was one of the
reasons for Pakistan no posting
He said he wanted to get into form because of a tough and gruelling
forthcoming season in which Pakistan play around 65 one-dayers and
nine Tests. "I want to start on an encouraging note which would help
my confidence with the progress of the season."
Saeed said he would accept captaincy if offered. Pakistan face
leadership crisis as Moin Khan is all set to miss the Singapore tour
on fitness grounds.
"Leading the Pakistan team is always a great honour. I didn't have a
successful run earlier this year but I think I am now prepared to make
mends for my earlier failure as captain," he said.
