Canterbury's Chris Harris tops the national Shell Cup cricket batting
averages after the double round-robin competition.
Harris scored 228 runs from five innings at 57.00 underlining his
mastery of the 50-over game.
His closest rival is fellow Cantabrian Gary Stead who is one of the
leading run-getters with 378 runs at 54 from nine innings. The most
runs have been scored by Mark Richardson (Otago) with 391.
Canterbury supplies the bowler with the best average, 24-year-old
Chris Martin, whose 11 wickets have cost just 15.63. Wellington's
Richard Petrie, now battling a groin injury to be fit for tomorrow's
semi-final against Northern Districts, has taken most wickets, 17.
Wellington team-mate Gavin Larsen has the most economical average
yielding 3.06 from his 50 overs with Cantabrians Harris (3.68) and
Stephen Cunis (3.93) in the top 12.
Canterbury gloveman Gareth Hopkins shared the most wicketkeeping
dismissals for the 10 games at 15 (11 catches, four stumpings) with
Wellington's Chris Nevin (14 catches, one stumping).
