Bangladesh have included batsman
Naeem Islam, offspinner
Sohag Gazi and fast bowler
Rubel Hossain in the 14-man squad for the first two ODIs of the five-match series against West Indies, which begins on November 30. Fast bowler
Shafiul Islam also returns to one-day internationals, having recovered from the shoulder injury he picked up while fielding in the Asia Cup in March.
Abul Hasan, fresh off his record-breaking century at No. 10 in the Tests, was also picked.
Success in the
first Test against West Indies propelled Naeem, Gazi and Rubel into the squad: Naeem scored a first-innings century, Gazi finished with a match-haul of nine and Rubel claimed the wickets of Chris Gayle and Darren Bravo on return from injury. Naeem is back in the one-day squad for the first time since playing against Pakistan in December last year, the same series in which Rubel too played his last ODI before picking up an injury.
Those who missed out from Bangladesh's last ODI assignment, the Asia Cup, include Nazimuddin, Elias Sunny, Imrul Kayes, Nazmul Hossain and Shahadat Hossain.
In his last appearance for Bangladesh, Sunny conceded 36 runs from three overs in the first match against New Zealand. Kayes had won a place in the Asia Cup squad after a good domestic season in 2011-12, but fell away again, much like Nazimuddin who had played the Asia Cup but had an ordinary time. Pace bowler Shahadat's nightmare performance in the Asia Cup final would have certainly played a part in his non-selection.
Both Bangladesh and West Indies will play a warm-up game each ahead of the series, and the board also announced the BCB XIs that will play these games.
