Sri Lanka's Minister of Commerce and Trade Kingsley
Wickremeratne has been invited as Chief Guest to the first ever
dinner held in the Palace of Westminster in honour of Sri Lankan
Cricket. Minister Wickramaratne who will be in the UK for the
Commonwealth Heads of Government meeting will break away from
his busy schedule to attend the prestigious event.
The dinner has been organised by the Cavaliers Club based in the
UK. The Cavaliers has promoted Sri Lankan cricket for several
years and the entire Sri Lankan test team led by Arjuna
Ranatunga have played under the Cavaliers banner at the annual
Festival of Cricket, now a major sporting fixture for the
100,000 strong Sri Lankan Community.
This dinner will raise money for Sri Lanka's Cricket tour of the
UK in August 1998. Sri Lanka will play one solitary Test in the
UK and participate in the one-day tournament. The gala dinner
will be attended by British MPs, cricket lovers and members of
the Sri Lankan Community - all the raffle prizes are air tickets
to Sri Lanka on Air Lanka, British Airways and Emirates.
The captain of the Sri Lanka team, Arjuna Ranatunga and the
`master blaster' Sanath Jayasuriya have been invited to attend
this important House of Commons dinner to be held on Saturday 25
of October.
