Development committee to improve standard of cricket
A National Development Committee (NDC) with Sri Lanka Cricket
Board president Thilanga Sumathipala as chairman has been formed
to improve the standard of the game around the country.
Other members of the committee comprise Cricket Board
vice-presidents Anuruddha Polonowita and Abu Fuard, treasurer
Nuski Mohamed, secretary Saliya Ahangama, chief executive
Dammika Ranatunga, coaching director Malcolm Perera, and the
five regional secretaries.
The NDC has appointed the following members to serve as honorary
regional secretaries : Region I (office in Colombo) - Anura
Weerasinghe (districts - Puttalam/Chilaw, Gampaha, Kalutara,
Ratnapura, Colombo); Region 2 (office in Kandy) - Janaka
Pathirana (districts - Nuwara Eliya, Kegalle, Kandy); Region 3
(office in Galle) - Jayananda Warnaweera (districts - Matara,
Hambantota, Galle); Region 4 (office in Dambulla) - Sujeeewa
Godaliyadde (districts - Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa, Matale,
Kurunegala); Region 5 (office in Badulla) - R.M.U. Ratnayake
(districts - Ampara, Monaragala, Badulla).
Provisions are being made to incorporate a sixth region in the
near future incorporating Jaffna, Trincomalee, Batticaloa,
Mannar, Kilinochchi and Vavuniya, states a press release from
the Cricket Board president.
The regional boards are constituted to cater to the needs of all
district cricket associations in the region. The region will
comprise a chairman, secretary, treasurer (all BCCSL ExCo
appointed), an executive (BCCSL appointed), coach (BCCSL
coaching committee appointed), umpire (BCCSL umpires committee
appointed), representative from schools (SLSCA appointed) and a
member from each DCA (respective DCA appointed). - (S.T.)
Sri Lanka women pile up 307/9
Three good knocks by Vanessa Bowan (76), Chamini Seneviratne
(43), and Rose Fernando (43) helped the Sri Lanka women's
cricket team declare their first innings at a formidable 307 for
9 on the opening day of their first test match against the
touring Pakistan women's cricket team played at the Colts
grounds, Havelock Park yesterday.
The visitors in reply were 4 for 1. The match will be continued
at 10.30 a.m today.

18 teams for KDCA six-a-side tourney From our Kandy South Group

The biggest ever six-a-side inter club cricket tournament
organised by the Kandy District Cricket Association will be
worked off at the Asgiriya Stadium on Saturday and Sunday (April
18 and 19).
Eighteen teams will be in the fray of the Segment A of this
tournament which will be sponsored by the Seylan Bank,
Luckeyland Biscuits Company, Hatton National Bank, Lanka Orient
Leasing Company and the trophies have been donated by the Bank
of Ceylon.
The Segment 'B' of this tournament which was scheduled to be
played on April 25 and 26 has been postponed and the new dates
will be announced shortly.
