Two fine bowling efforts by pacewomen Chamani Seneviratne (5 for
31) and Rasanjalee Silva (4 for 29) put the Sri Lanka Women's
cricket in a strong position against the Pakistan women's team
on the second day of the first Test played at the Colts grounds,
Havelock Park yesterday.
Beginning the day at 4 for 1 the visitors were dismissed for 176
in 82 overs in 325 minutes. At one stage Pakistan were reeling
at 34 for 5 but Kiran Baluch steadied the innings with a defiant
76 which contained 13 hits to the ropes. Kiran and Shiza Khan
(16) shared a valuable 41 runs stand for the sixth wicket.
The local women with a healthy lead of 131 runs were 46 for 2 in
their second essay.
The match will be continued today at 10.30 am.
Scores: Sri Lanka 307 for 9 decl. and 46 for 2 (Vasanti
Ratnayake 13, Dedunu Gunaratne 29, Shaiza Khan 1 for 18, Nazia
Nazeer 1 for 4) and Pakistan overnight 4 for 1 all out 176
(Kiran Baluch 76, Shiza Khan 16, Sharmeen Khan 19, Asma Farzand

Dharmadutha MV winners

Dharmadutha Maha Vidyalaya Badulla emerged winners at the
inaugural Duminda Mahaweli big match when they beat Mahiyangana
Madhya Maha Vidyalaya by 9 runs played on last Tuesday at the
Mahiyangana MMV grounds.
This first ever big match at Mahiyangana attracted a large crowd
and was organised on a grand style. Mahiyangana MMV skipper
Lakmal Ranaweera won the toss and invited Dharmadutha to take
first lease of the game in this limited over encounter.
Chamara Pradeep (44) and Skipper Thilan Naveendra Gunasinghe
(35) enabled Dharmadutha to score 147 runs.
In reply Mahiyangana MMV were all out for 138 runs. S.
Hapugaspitiya top scored with 26 runs.
Chamara Pradeep was awarded the best batsman's trophy while
skipper Tilan Naveendra won the man of the match award.

Army inter-regiment cricket tournament 1998
THE ARMY after a lapse of 10 years, has decided to conduct an
inter-regiment cricket tournament (40 overs) with the blessings
of the Commander of the Army, Lt. Gen. R. de S. Daluwatte.
Ten regiments will take part in the tournament which includes
SLAC, SLA, SLSC, SLLI, ESR, MIC, SLASC, SLAOC, SLAGSC, SLCMP.
The tournament will be conducted during the months of April -
May at the Colombo Malay Cricket Club. Brig. Upali
Bandaratillake who is the president of the Army Cricket
Committee is keen to enter a team from the Army to play premier
division cricket in Sri Lanka.
Good all-round performance
Dilantha Senal of Harishchandra College, Negombo, did extremely
well this season both with the bat and the ball in Division II
of the Coca-Cola Under-19 Cricket Tournament organised by the
Sri Lanka Schools Cricket Association.
Senal did his school proud by slamming four centuries with an
highest score of 192 against Sri Piyaratna MV, Padukka, at an
average of 53.8 in 13 matches.
He also claimed 51 wickets at an average of 15.8 with 21 catches
to his credit.
