BRISBANE - The Australian and West Indies players will vie for four new
individual trophies when their Test series begins at the Gabba on Thursday.
Australian Cricket Board chairman Denis Rogers announced the awards at
tonight's Tied Test Reunion dinner in Brisbane, named after players who
featured in the famous 1960-61 series.
The Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy will be presented to the best batsman in this
summer's five-Test series while the best bowler will win the Alan Davidson
Trophy.
The Norm O'Neill Trophy will go to the most outstanding individual
performance in any one of the Tests while the Joe Solomon Trophy will be
presented to the best fielder.
Solomon threw the wicket down in Brisbane to create cricket's first tied
Test and the West Indian returned to the city for tonight's dinner.
Australia's tied Test captain Richie Benaud will be included in a three-man
voting panel.
The Frank Worrell Trophy remains the feature prize in Australian-West Indian
battles, going to the team which wins the Test series.
