Karachi, Aug 9: West Indies defeated South Africa by the skin of their
teeth to earn a title shot against Pakistan in the Under-15 World
Challenge.
The West Indies, chasing 226 for victory in 50 overs, won the semifinal spanning over two days with two wickets and as many balls to
spare. Interestingly, Saturday's final will be a repeat of the 1987
Under-19 World Cup final which was staged in Australia.
The boy who made victory possible for the West Indies was A.Ragoonath
who remained undefeated on a 130-ball 93. His innings was studded with
nine boundaries.
South Africa, however, are themselves to be blamed for the defeat as
they conceded no less than 29 extras, including 24 wides and no-balls
which meant four extra overs and 24 bonus runs.
Earlier, South Africa resuming at 192 for five in 42 overs, added 33
runs from their remaining seven overs to finish at 225 for seven from
their allotted 50 overs.
D.van Wyk was the top scorer with a 111-ball 85 comprising nine
boundaries while D.van Jaarsveld contributed 55 with six fours from 73
balls. The two featured in a 105-run fourth wicket partnership.
