The four-day Supersport Series match between Boland and the Highveld
Strikers in Paarl finally conceded to nature and was called-off without a
ball bowled in the entire match.
An inspection by the umpires and captains on Monday, to decide whether the teams could at least play one day following heavy rains, revealed waterlogged areas on the field.
The captains and the umpires deemed the outfield unplayable and the match
was abandoned without a result.
Neither side will take any points from the match which puts paid to Striker's hopes of making progress in the four day competition.
They were lying third in Pool A on 25 points and remain in that position for
the time being. They have completed their full round of fixtures though, and
the two sides below them are on 18 points.
Boland, in fourth have now completed two matches while Griquas in fifth,
also on 18 points, are busy with their fourth match. Both teams are well set
to surpass the defending champions on the log once their full compliment of
matches are completed.
