The Barbados Fire & Commercial Cup One-Day cricket competition has
been hit by another delay. Heavy rains yesterday meant there was no
play in the three scheduled matches: two quarter-finals and one
preliminary match.
The quarter-finals - between ICB Empire and Caribbean Lumber YMPC, and
United Carlton and Mount Gay Maple - will be rescheduled once there is
a wash-out, according to competition rules.
However, the preliminary match between BNB St. Catherine and Cockspur
Wanderers, which the Barbados Cricket Association (BCA) ordered to be
replayed after errors in the calculations of overs in the original
result, may also be replayed.
On October 8 Wanderers won, but the BCA upheld a St. Catherine
protest.
The board of the BCA is due to meet today concerning yesterday's washout and the result of the meeting will be made available by tomorrow.
Nationsport is reliably informed that by ordering "a replay", the
match must be played to get a result and points.
St. Catherine have six points and Wanderers two, behind Zone B leaders
ESA Field Pickwick on ten. A win would take St. Catherine to ten
points and it would require calculations to determine the zone winner.
If Wanderers were to win the "replay" it would bring them to six
points, level with St. Catherine, and the calculators would again be
required to decide the second-place side to advance to the quarterfinals.
The other teams already in the quarter-finals are Cable & Wireless BET
and Big B Spartan, awaiting the outcome of Zone B.
