Bangladesh v South Africa, 2015

Wisden's review of the third ODI, Bangladesh v South Africa, 2015

15-Apr-2016
Third one-day international At Chittagong, July 15, 2015 (day/night). Bangladesh won by nine wickets (D/L). ‡South Africa 168-9 (40 overs) (D. A. Miller 44, J-P. Duminy 51; Shakib Al Hasan 3-33); Bangladesh 170-1 (26.1 overs) (Tamim Iqbal 61*, Soumya Sarkar 90). MoM: Soumya Sarkar. MoS: Soumya Sarkar. Local media had described Bangladesh's series-levelling victory three days earlier as a "once-in-a-generation result". But that was a closely fought contest compared to the decider, in which South Africa were humiliated. Hashim Amla had rarely struggled quite like this, labouring on a two-paced pitch against the excellent left-armers Mustafizur and Shakib (who reached 200 ODI wickets, as did captain Mashrafe bin Mortaza). At 50-4, South Africa's ambitions extended no further than respectability, but even that eluded them: Miller and Duminy proved too conscious of keeping wickets in hand once rain intervened at 78-4 after 23 overs. Bangladesh romped to their adjusted target of 170 from 40 overs without care or concern. Rabada and Morkel were caned, particularly by Soumya Sarkar, who gave an exhibition of how to play fast bowling. Tamim seemed intent on enjoying the South Africans' discomfort for as long as possible, even if it meant prolonging the run-chase.
