India v England, 2012-13

A review of India A v England XI, India v England, 2012-13

15-Apr-2013
At Mumbai (Brabourne Stadium), October 30-November 1, 2012. Drawn. Toss: India A.
Pietersen's return to England colours for the first time since the Headingley Test in August was overshadowed by an injury to Finn, who limped off with a thigh strain after bowling four overs on the first morning and would not return to the England side until the Kolkata Test. India A recovered from 190 for six - including an innings of 59 from Yuvraj Singh that contained four sixes - thanks to Tiwary, who added 110 with Pathan, and was eighth out, yorked by Bresnan for 93.
England lost Compton third ball at the venue where his grandfather, Denis, had made an unbeaten 249 for Holkar in the 1944-45 Ranji Trophy final. Pietersen launched his sixth delivery, off Raina, down the ground for six, but soon provided a lame return catch to his old nemesis Yuvraj, who went on to complete a maiden first-class five-for with his part-time slow left-armers. But from 133 for four, Cook and Patel - cementing a Test spot - added 169, while Prior's 51 off 52 deliveries helped them to a 57-run lead. England's bowlers managed four second-innings wickets before a draw was agreed.
Close of play: first day, India A 369-9 (Vinay Kumar 25, Awana 11); second day, England XI 286-4 (Cook 112, Patel 82).
