The match was played at Quetta, the capital of the province of Baluchistan. It is a hill station surrounded by snow-clad mountains and chilly winds in winter and a pleasantly cool weather in summer.
Malaysia won the toss and elected to bat, losing wickets at regular intervals till they were 46 for 4, after which the innings appeared to have stabilized. In 29 overs they were 79 for 4 with S. Vickneswaran (23) and Eszafiq Abdul Azis (14) fighting out the medium pacer Mohammad Usman, who had dominated the game, claiming 3 of the 4 wickets.
Abdul Azis continued with his fighting innings till he was out for a defiant 46 scored in 65 balls with 5 hits to the boundary. K. Sathiaseelan was the other batsman to contribute a useful 18. As usual Mr. EXTRAS was again the second highest contributor with a valuable 39.
Malaysia was 9 for 166 in 45 overs. This was atleast one team, which consumed its full quota of overs. Mohammad Usman took 3 wickets for 18 while other bowlers evenly shared the rest.

Essex beat Worcestershire by four wickets at Chelmsford thanks primarily to
Stuart Law's third county championship of the season. He scored 133 n.o. as
the home side attained 286 to achieve their third Division Two victory this
summer. Essex had come from behind magnificently after being 109 runs behind
on the first innings.
Earlier in the day off-spinner Peter Such took two wickets to finish with
5-39 from 22.3 overs as Worcestershire were dismissed for 176 in their
second innings. Glenn McGrath, the most successful bowler in the first
innings, was treated particularly harshly by the Essex batsmen. He yielded
34 in his first four overs - Paul Prichard hitting four quick boundaries.
Spinners put Lancashire in control

Lancashire's spin bowlers have given the county a good chance of victory
against Durham at Manchester. Gary Keedy and Gary Yates took three wickets
each to take Durham to 123-6 at the close (a narrow lead of just b48 with
only the lower-order to bat).
On a dry pitch the spinners generally sent down 160 overs, a factor which played to Lancashire's superiority in that department. Even so Durham's poor position resulted as much from their own batting vulnerability as from the turning ball.

Yorkshire enhanced their prospects of gaining on leaders Surrey by
dismissing Somerset for 182 in their Division One championship match at
Scarborough after they had lost the toss. By the close they had reached
144-3 with Darren Lehmann (21 n.o.) and captain David Byas (10 n.o.) the
not-out batsmen.
Somerset's poor batting could not be blamed entirely on the well-grassed pitch. The demise started with skipper Jamie Cox caught at the wicket off Matthew Hoggard for 10. In the next over Mark Lathwell played on to Chris Silverwood and Somerset could not staunch the fall of wickets. Rob Turner (38 top score) looked secure for a while but was bowled behind his legs in sweeping at Lehmann's left-arm spin. Peter Trego was left on 27 n.o. after sharing a 44 runs ninth-wicket stand with Turner.

The fast bowler took 5-43 in 21 overs - his second five-return of the season - after Steve Watkin suffered a return of his groin strain and had to leave the field during the first over after lunch.

Martin Bicknell broke through Leicestershire's batting by taking five wickets for Surrey in a spell which had the visitors in trouble at 33-6 by the close at Guildford: they were just 63 runs ahead. He followed his seven first-innings wickets by dismissing both openers, Darren Maddy and Iain Sutcliffe, and taking three more wickets in ten balls.
Earlier Leicestershire appeared to have gained a good grip on the game with James Ormond taking six wickets in Surrey's 288 runs total which owed almost
everything to Ian Ward (107). Nadeem Shahid (47) and Ward took Surrey from
93-1 with some positive stroke-play but the partnership was broken by
leg-spinner Anil Kumble in the last ober before lunch.

Yorkshire have every chance of improving on their third position in the
First Division of the championship as they took a 218 runs first innings
lead over Somerset and then had their guests at 12-2 in their second innings
at Scarborough.
Both of Somerset's opening batsmen, Jamie Cox and Mark Lathwell, are already out and Yorkshire are on course to win within three days. The home county's total was built around a 130 runs partnership in 49 overs between Darren Lehmann and David Byas.

Northamptonshire prospered from some unconvincing Glamorgan batting and the
accurate bowling of their own paceman Michael Strong and off-spinner Jason
Brown to have the advantage of Glamorgan at Cardiff.
Strong took 4-50 and Brown returned 4-56 in the long spell of 31.2 overs.
The home batsmen did not benefit from the example of Matthew Elliott and
Adrian Shaw, and were dismissed for 198 (still 31 runs behind). The visitors
took that lead to 141 by scoring a further 110-2 by the close.

Rahul Dravid kept his international rival Shane Warne at bay to keep Kent
from serious trouble against Hampshire at Portsmouth. The Indian scored 137
over almost six hours to attain his first championship century for Kent.
His mastery of Warne, who bowled 37 overs, lifted Kent to 252 in reply to
Hampshire's 320. Warne bowled well enough against the other batsmen to take
4-81 but could not dislodge Dravid who struck 16 fours in his 295 balls at
the crease.

lead at Chelmsford. By the close the visitors were on 124-7: the position
would have been more parlous ut for Vikram Solanki striking 53 from 57 balls
with one six and nine fours.
However he was eventually out to off-spinner Peter Such who returned 3-28 in 15 overs. Nineteen wickets fell for 263 runs in the day. The procession of departing batsmen began early with the loss of Worcestershire three outstanding wickets for just 8 runs to leave the total on 240.
