Nottinghamshire batted stubbornly in the sunshine at Hove to prevent Sussex from capitalising on their big 404-5 score on the first day. At 240-3 by the close the visitors were 82 runs away from saving the follow-on in this Division Two championship match.
Jason Lewry and James Kirtley found little life in the pitch and the only early wicket was that of Guy Welton caught at slip. Darren Bicknell crept to 2 by lunch, took 56 minutes afterwards to increase, and got finally into double figures after being 26 overs at the crease.

John Crawley struck his second century in a week and Michael Gough took four
wickets in innings for the first time in over a year in the Division One
championship match between Lancashire and Durham at Manchester.
Crawley, who had made 120 against Somerset at Taunton at the weekend, hit 117 to take Lancashire to 265-2 in response to Durham's 370. Then occasional off-spinner Gough dismissed Crawley and Saurav Ganguly to add to previous victims
Michael Atherton and Neil Fairbrother. By the close Lancashire were still 71
runs in arrears on 299-4.

England turned in a sound bowling and fielding performance in restricting
the West Indies to 195 for nine wickets in their innings in the final group
match of the NatWest Series at Trent Bridge in Nottingham.
Chris Gayle and Chris Adams got into the thirties, but the accurate, disciplined England bowlers allowed none of the batsmen to take charge. Craig White was the leading wicket-taker with three, but it was essentially a typical team effort.

Alec Stewart's gallant century was not enough to stop West Indies winning by
three runs in a breathtaking finish to the last qualifying match before the
final of the NatWest Series.
In the closest finish to a game in this series, West Indies kept their nerve
as England's batsmen scrambled for runs in the final over. Stewart, whose
brilliant batting form has continued, bringing him a second successive
century, and becoming only the fifth England player to do so in limited-overs
cricket, guided his side throughout the innings, chasing a modest target of
196.

England warmed up for Saturday's NatWest Series final against Zimbabwe by
narrowly losing a thrilling contest to the West Indies by just 3 runs - Alec

Having restricted the visitors to 195-9 from their 50 overs England were
expecting to pick up their fourth straight win of the competition.
Somerset's Marcus Trescothick began in the same confident manner which has
accompanied his entry into the international fold, driving Reon King through
the covers off the first ball of the innings. A second boundary in the over
and another in Mervyn Dillon's first over (courtesy of a Franklyn Rose
misfield) immediately put the West Indies on the back foot but in the third
over they came close to dismissing Alec Stewart.

Bangladesh Vs Bahrain
The match commenced at the National Bank Ltd. Ground in Karachi. The manner in which the Bahrain's team showed its incompetence and lack of courage to face the Bangladesh bowling indicated it to be a one sided affair. To the horror of cricket fans the match designed to last 90 overs finished in less than 20 overs, with Bangladesh defeating Bahrain by 10 runs.
The Bahrain's innings was a touch and go affair. They had more ducks in the team than players, letting 6 of them loose to walk about in the field and search for a pond to dip in.
Except for Haroon Naseer who was run out after playing a thrilling knock of 35 in 29 balls, the remaining players fell like the autumn leaves. The second highest being Asif Siddique with 5 runs. The whole side crumbled for 52 in 13.4 overs. Sharif ul Islam grabbed 4 wickets for only 2 runs while Talha Jubair clinched 3 for 25.

For once, sunny skies greeted the cricketers as England took on West Indies
in the final group match of the NatWest Series. The pitch has a greenish
tinge but is expected to be good for batting, with perhaps some movement
early on, no doubt the reason England put West Indies in to bat on winning
the toss. A good crowd is expected, with 14,000 tickets having been sold in
advance.
Although the result of this match has no direct bearing on Saturday's final at Lord's between England and Zimbabwe, a great deal of pride is still at stake. England are very keen to win this match and finish top of the group table, ahead of Zimbabwe. For their part, West Indies, set for elimination. will be determined to make their departure from the series on a high note and add to their solitary point, gained in their first encounter with England when rain stopped play with West Indies very much on top.
West Indies, though, are having to play without the talents of Brian
Lara, whose long-standing hamstring strain requires a rest, and Ramnaresh
Sarwan will replace him, making his one-day international debut; in addition
Franklyn Rose comes in for Nixon McLean. For England, Paul Franks makes his
debut on his home ground, replacing Andy Caddick, who is rested. The teams

After 30 overs of the West Indian innings at Trent Bridge in the last of the
group matches in the NatWest Series, England could be well pleased with
their progress. They restricted the tourists, who were without Brian Lara,
to 101 for three wickets, thanks to persistently accurate bowling backed by
some fine fielding. Two of the wickets fell in quick succession to the
steady medium-pacer Mark Ealham.

recording a thrilling three-run victory over England at Trent Bridge.
After fine English bowling and fielding had reduced the tourists to 195 for nine
in their allotted 50 overs, England enjoyed a confident opening partnership
of 46. Then three quick wickets to Reon King, helped by a fine run-out,
brought about a collapse. However Stewart, with useful contributions from the all-rounders, kept England in the hunt until the end.

about a collapse. After 30 overs, Alec Stewart was still there with 30, and
most of England's hopes of victory rest on him. The match is in the
balance.
