Sri Lanka secure the Warne-Muralitharan trophy for the first time in its existence! They spin out Australia inside three days. Eighth straight Test defeat for Australia in Asia. Nevill ventures out of the crease and searches for the flick. He ends up jabbing it straight to forward short leg as the ball dips, creating a fair distance between bat and the pitch. Excellent reflexes from Mendis. You little beauty. He stays low, collects the ball, and under-arm throws it onto the stumps at the striker's end, all in one swift motion, to catch Nevill, who fell over, short. How fitting is that? Mendis, who sparked SL's resurgence in Pallekele, finishes it off
Sri Lanka vs Australia, 2nd Test at Galle, Aug 04 2016 - Ball by Ball Commentary
1.40pm Sri Lanka's 250th Test in Galle could very well walk into this elite list. Who'd have thought of this turnaround after Sri Lanka folded for 117 inside 35 overs in their first innings at Pallekele? Many thanks for your company and comments. Watch out for post-match pieces from Fidel Fernando and Dan Brettig. Until then, this is Deivarayan Muthu signing off on the behalf of Shashank, Chandan and Thilak.
1.15pm Angelo Mathews punches the air in delight. He has his hands aloft and the Sri Lankans get into the huddle. Dilruwan sheepishly holds the ball up. Percy Abeysekera joins the celebrations. Mathews and his men take a lap of honour around the Galle Stadium, thanking the crowd; the fans lapping up the victors. What a moment for Sri Lanka! Coming after the disastrous England tour and the first-innings capitulation at Pallekele.
Mendis has shown extraordinary skill, as has Herath. Dilruwan has stepped up. Sandakan, the wristspinner, has added more bite to the attack. Superlative spin bowling. Dhanajaya de Silva is a fine prospect as well. Aravinda de Silva, Little Kalu, and Sanath were all present to witness history. Where will Australia go from here?
Brydon's report will tell you the story of SL's triumph.
Presentation
Dilruwan Perera, Man of the Match: I had a bad time in Pallekele. The team needed some runs and I got it in Galle.
Steven Smith, Australia captain :It has been tough going. To lose the toss was not ideal. I thought 200 in each innings was probably about par. Yeah, it is incredibly hard to come back after being bowled out for 106 and chasing 400 [413]. A few shots and guys used their feet in the second innings; learnt a little bit. Sri Lankans bowled with the side seam. Some balls skid on, some turn. It was very foreign but we will have to find a way. The conditions here are challenging and have a lot of work to do. Credit to Sri Lanka for the way they played to wrap up the series.
Angelo Mathews, Sri Lanka captain: Not too many teams do this to the No.1 team. I was under a little bit of pressure after winning the toss. What a performance from Dilruwan after a quiet match in Pallekele. We backed him and the selectors backed him. We have worked on the sweep. Most of us swept and it came off well. Credit should go to Mitchell Starc as well. I am pretty happy with the batting form, but I can contribute more. Getting the win is the most pleasing thing for me.
Buddhi: "Little Sri Lankans revolutionized the entire Cricket arena in 1995-96 by beating Australians in ODIs and went on to win the world cup..Is this another beginning of a journey towards success? "
KW: "It's the spinners winning a trophy which was named after the best in the business !!"
Kumar Sangakkara tweets: "A series win to be proud of. Beating the #1 side in the world with ease. Enjoy the well earned win boys and make it 3 wins for @OfficialSLC"
Our Statsman Bharath Seervi tweets: "Galle Test (1297 balls) is the second-shortest completed Test in Asia where all 40 wickets fell. Shortest: Mumbai (1215 balls) 2004-05."
Mustafa Moudi: "Who would have thought that a Team who haven't defeated Australia in last 17 years in a single game would snatch a series in such a ruthless manner. That's Cricket !!"
Sarab sidhu: "Australia bowled out 2 times in 84 overs .. Loosely, they have not played a full day of 90 overs .. .. Well done sri lanka "
Safat_27: "Poor batting display! Horror tour continues for the Aussies. "
DanielAlexander: "We Sri Lanka win our 250th Test match."
Rajindra: "Aussie's Titanic sinks. "
Sadiq: "Australia only faced 2 overs from Pacer in entire match."
Mathew: "So no talk about the pitch?" --- There weren't any demons in the surface. No complaints.
vikas: "@Sadiq: Matthews also bowled 3 overs in 1st innings.......not express but still..."

SamRoy: "Peter Nevill and Wriddhiman Saha, very similar. Both guys have good organized defensive batting techniques and are decent wicket-keepers. But have 40+ first class averages. But both seem to be lacking in both power and/or timing required to score big in test cricket."
