Saw him backing to the leg side and followed him up, cramping him for room, a length ball, he nudged to long on and that's the end of that
Capitals vs Super Giants, 10th Match at Centurion, SA20, Jan 18 2024 - Match Result
That's it from this game but action comes thick and fast in SA20. MI Cape Town will face table-toppers Paarl Royals tomorrow and we'll look forward to your company again. For now, it's goodnight from me, Rvel Zahid, and everyone else at ESPNcricinfo.
Keshav Maharaj: It was good surface upfront, bowlers in the end gave us a good chance, we couldn't get going in that powerplay...simple plans paid dividends, they are a lot of positives that we can carry from this game in this competition. Maybe it's just about getting rustiness off, it's just about executing and the result will take care of itself, it's back to basics from the next game.
Wayne Parnell: We started really well probably lost a bit in the end with the bat, wicket was't as good as they made it look here..there was some variable bounce, after powerplay there was variable bounce, message is go out and just express yourself. Wouldn't say polish (performance), if we have the right plans, more often than not we will execute, if not on a particular day, I am not too fussed about it. Closing up a game is foremost but there are definitely areas to work on. There are some very talented guys in every team, so it's about keeping things simple, go ball by ball
Will Jacks, Player of the Match: It was a good day, good all round performance, lucky to get win. just have to try to keep it simple with bat and bowl, and not overhit the ball here. I really enjoyed bowling, (relied) on my strengths.
Brilliant last over from Neesham, he held his nerve and kept it simple. Will Jacks' thumping 100 remains the highlight of the day, surely the difference between the two sides. Super Giants needed a big knock from someone, but nobody could push on keep the asking rate in check. Excellent bowling from Jacks, Bosch who conceded 6 runs per over, A Rashid kept it tight too and stemmed the run-flow in the middle overs. Parnell was a bit expensive, but overall, it was a well-knit bowling performance. Capitals register their first win of this season and jump to the fifth spot. They could have easily got more than 200, but the middle-order succumbed meekly at the death. The response with the ball from Capitals was terrific as they broke the partnerships at vital moments and made sure they were a step ahead in clutch moments
Shortens his length, not much room to go big, forehands it down the ground and long-off cuts it off
Swing and a miss! Back of a length at an innocuous pace with little bit of nibble outside off, early through the swing and Neesham has brought all his experience to the fore
Smart bowling. Not giving him pace to work with. Short of a length on middle, rocks back and clonks the front foot out of the way, tugging it to deep midwicket
Pace off the ball, on a length and keeping it wicket to wicket, carved away aerially to sweeper who collects it on one bounce, 21 from four needed, slipping away quickly
Length ball just outside off, belts it down the ground but finds long-off and is livid with himself. 22 off 5
Neesham will bowl the last over!
heat-seeking yorker on middle, digs it out to midwicket, precious precious dot. 24 required in last over! It will require a herculean effort to pull it off
hold on! this game is far from over! Maharaj bashes it straight down the ground away from Jacks at long-off and it sped away for four, they have got 14 off the over with one more to go
gets it right on this occasion, slightly back of a length shaping it across off, pace off the ball, can't time it
wide will help DSG. length ball swaying wide across off, tries to bludgeon it across the line but it kept swirling away
High full toss on off, he makes sure to latches onto the loosener and slugs it over long on for a six, this is getting exciting now, nail-biting stuff. Loved the sound of the bat
Solid hit, four written all over it! Short of a length, holding its line just outside off, whacks it with disdain to deep midwicket boundary, fielder dives but by then the ball had already crossed the rope
Nope they can't. That's a stunning yorker dipping in and he carves it out to extra cover, scampers through a run, well bowled
pulls his length back, clonked towards long on and only add one more to the total, they need to finish with a six to make it interesting
that's a good comeback from Viljoen. Hammered on shortish length and meandering in the channel, once again can't get on top of it, keeper hits the stumps and they are not in the mood to sneak an extra run
flummoxed by the cunning slower one on back of a length, drifting into the pads and he can't pull it away
Okay, they are not giving up. Launches the ball straight over the bowler's head for half-a-dozen runs. Off-pace delivery on back of a length, times it like a horologist and opens his account in the best possible manner
Ball thunders into the front pad as he looks to scoop it over the keeper, they all appeal in unison and convince the umpire to raise the dreaded finger. Review taken. Looked close in real time. Pitched on back of a length and held its line on middle, in-fact swerved in a little unless it was an optical illusion. No deviation on ultra edge. three reds on the big screen, umpire's call and that's that. Only height would have saved him but it's hitting just under the bail on leg stump
this time he nails the wide yorker to perfection, fast and tailing away from off stump, can't scythe it away
excellent risk free cricket earns him another boundary! short of a length well wide of off, anther four, knucked past third man. Should come closer to the stumps, not quite getting the wide line right, he is trying to keep it away from his reach but so far unsuccessful, RPO down to 15
