bowled him, and another Pakistan win! Fullish ball pitching on middle and leg, and coming on with the angle from around the wicket. Thomas misses his attempted flick, and the ball hits leg stump. Pakistan win by 9 runs, and take the series with a 2-0 lead
Pakistan vs West Indies, 2nd T20I at Karachi, PAK v WI, Dec 14 2021 - Match Result
That is it from us from the second T20I of the tour, but don't forget to join us for the third and final match in two days' time. Pakistan will be after a clean sweep while West Indies will seek to keep some pride. Until then, it is goodnight and goodbye from Ranjith, Sreshth and me, Himanshu!
Babar Azam, the winning captain: "The finish from Shadab [with the bat] was very good. Bowlers did well too - especially Shaheen - and it was a team effort. The idea is set to set a target and defend, and play as per the conditions and the wicket. There is grip for the spinners in the second innings, which is why we wanted to bat first. Wasim is improving day by day, and he is only doing well. The more he plays, the more experience he gets. The plan will be to try the bench strength in the next match."
Nicholas Pooran, the visiting captain: "Tough one for us. Big improvement from yesterday. Felt like we lost here due to silly mistakes. Irresponsible from myself too. We tried our best to execute plans. It's our responsibility to carry the game. Unfortunately, we made some mistakes. Very proud of Shepherd. It is an experience for us all, and very proud of how all these guys have performed."
Shadab Khan is the Player of the Match: "When my batting comes, it usually is in the death overs so I practice accordingly. I planned by batting as per the field. And with the ball, it wasn't gripping a lot. I had good rhythm, and I just tried to bowl in the good areas."
Time for the presentations
Abdul Rehman: "MoM should be Shadab khan." --- Who else but him?
Mudassar: "Pak win my heart beats are getting normal now."
Abdul Basit: "great effort by WI"
9.53pm So Pakistan take the game after a brief scare, as West Indies fall just short. Shepherd tried to keep West Indies in the game, but an undefeated 35 off 19 balls wasn't enough in the end. The visitors had only two major contributors in Shepherd and King - Pooran's 26 took too many deliveries for their liking - as Afridi's spell of 3 for 26 sealed it for the hosts.
Some drama here. One extra man was outside the circle, and someone observes just before Haris bowls. Could have been a no-ball had he bowled.
Haris around the wicket to Thomas
pretty full ball outside off, and absolutely crunched to deep point. Asif there runs to his left and has to stop that with from the side of his left thigh. That was hit very, very hard
A chat between Shadab, Haris and Babar
Syed : "Who dropped the catch?" --- Shadab...
beats Shadab running, and four to third man! He swings and slices that full ball outside off, and gets that off the outside edge over short third man. Game on anyone?
Armani: "Remember the name Haris Rauf"
yorker on off, and he nails it right there. Too full to allow Shepherd a free swing of the arms, as it comes off the bottom off the bat toward long-on
another one that flies off the bat, and that is six! Good length ball on middle, and he swings over deep backward square leg with the full force off the bat. Bang into the stands and over the fielder's head
dropped by Shadab at deep wide-ish third man! The ball went millesss up as Shepherd tried to slice that fullish ball on off, and while the ball dropped on him, it popped out of his hands
Haris from over the wicket.
Zaid Anjum: "4 sixes needed. Are we going to witness "Remember the Name" for Shepherd?"
pretty full on off, and tapped toward cover for a hurried single. That leaves West Indies with 23 to get off the final over
Around the wicket now
shuffles across to try and distract the bowler, as Afridi bowls full in the slot on middle. Slogged to long-on, and they don't run
another yorker and outside leg. He makes room and drives down the ground to long-off. They take a quick two, and the throw arrives at the bowler's end. Wow, this is much closer than what it looked as the umpire goes up to his TV colleague. Afridi receives the throw bang close to the stumps, and clips the bails off his left wrist. Replays show Hosein is just short of the crease, and he has to go
Avinash : "WI are actualy ahead after 18th over by 1 run but lost an extra wicket"
good stop by deep midwicket running to his right. Gets his right palm on the bounce, as Shepherd slogs that fullish ball on middle and leg
goes swinging for the hills, and misses. Slower ball on a fullish length outside off, and he is beaten by the change of pace. He is furious at that though
yorker on middle and leg, and he drills that to the left of deep point. He makes room and gets his front leg out of the way, and drives that from deep in the crease
Hat-trick ball from Afridi. Over the wicket to Shepherd.
yorker on middle and off, and he stands outside leg to push that late to point with the full face of the bat
Attique: "What a year Afridi is having.... Too good a ball for No 9."
full delivery on off, and nudged to mid-off for a rather rapid single. The throw arrives at the bowler's end but misses the stumps even as the batter is in
pretty full on off, and drilled down the ground to long-off
Hasaan : "For the first time, pakistani fans including me would be wishing for Wasim to not get a wicket, for the sake of Shaheen's hat trick."
pumped over deep midwicket! Another ball with a change of pace, and on a short of a length on off while angling in. He clears his front leg, and rams the ball over the fielder's head
slower ball, and fullish outside off. Nudged aerially to deep point
Hosein is the new batter. Wasim from around the wicket.
yorker length on off, and a slower ball too. Dances down to push that unconvincingly to long-on
Fullish ball, and bowled him! Golden duck for Walsh too. Beaten by pace there. He makes a touch of room to try and slash by clearing his front leg, but is beaten as the ball crashes into middle and off. Afridi has two in two, and will be on a hat-trick
Walsh is the new batter. Afridi over the wicket.
42 from 19. Anyone still giving West Indies a chance?
outside edge, and gone first ball! Out comes the typical Afridi celebration. Pretty full delivery in the line of around fourth stump, as Drakes drives off the front foot while the bat face slightly opens at the last moment. But the ball takes off from his outside edge for Rizwan to finish the take
Over the stumps to left-hander Drakes too
ariffin: "if WI will think like Asif Ali , they only need 8 sixes.."
