appeal for a run out, and Masekesa is indeed short! Bangladesh have done it. In the fading light in Chattogram, and after six home Test defeats on the trot, they find the spark to brighten their horizon. A commanding, commanding win and they have leveled this series in absolute style! Angled into the stumps. Masekesa nudges it into the on side and seems to call for the single. Tries to get across to the other end but is caught just short as Mominul hits bullseye at the bowler's end. Another sharp bit of work in the field and that has summed up Bangladesh's performance today and across the three days of this game. Another moment of indecision and hesitation on Zimbabwe's part and that, fittingly, encapsulates their plight in Chattogram too!
Bangladesh vs Zimbabwe, 2nd Test at Chattogram, BAN vs ZIM, Apr 28 2025 - Ball by Ball Commentary
6:32pm We had to wait a bit for the presentation ceremony but it did happen, just like this home Test win for Bangladesh. Both captains and teams now pose together with the trophy, with smiles all around, which also portrays the camaraderie between the two sides. That will be that from us and we hope you enjoyed our coverage of this series. Until next time, from Chetan, Harshith, Rashad, Shashwat and everyone else at ESPNcricinfo, this is goodbye!
Anik: "When was the last time a player got a hundred and five wickets on the same day?" -- Sampath tells me it has happened only once in men's Test cricket before - Ian Botham vs New Zealand in 1984 in Wellington. He picked up his fifth wicket on the morning of the second day and finished the day unbeaten on 103. A player picking up five wickets and scoring the entirety of his century on the same day is yet to happen in men's Test cricket.
Najmul Hossain Shanto, Bangladesh captain: Brilliant performance. The whole team did a great job. The work they put in before the match, really happy (about it) and that is what we need to do consistently. I don't think it is too much pressure on us. We did not play good cricket (in the first Test), but we knew we could play good cricket here because we have done that a lot of times. We struggled a little with the opening partnership but the way Shadman and Bijoy batted, really impressive.
Mehidy Hasan Miraz is the Player of the Series and the Player of the Match: I am feeling good. We lost the first match, we had to win this match. The boys were excited (for this match), the commitment…we played as a team. Credit goes to the bowlers. Taijul supported me. Tanzim and Hasan Mahmud showed their character and they gave us an opportunity for getting a century. I have also played for so many years. We have a lot of senior players. We have good seniors in the team and they keep supporting, on how to play these conditions. They have lots of experience. If we play together, we are definitely a very good team.
Craig Ervine, Zimbabwe captain: The first innings, we knew it was a really good wicket to bat on first. The first day, for a long period, we did a lot of things right but let it slip towards the end. 227 in the first innings, you are always behind the eight-ball. The way they (Bangladesh) batted, they batted us out of the game. (On Masekesa) Guys are really chuffed for him. He has a bright future, his attitude is outstanding. Getting five wickets on debut is outstanding. (On not capitalizing on their starts) A bit of a concern when you get starts because the hardest part in cricket is getting in. Their spinners built pressure, did not give easy runs. It was a case of grafting, spending time out in the middle and that is something we did not do. Playing here in the subcontinent, the guys will take a lot of learnings from this series. We now head across to England, which will be different (in terms of conditions), and we are then back home. Tough competition coming up and this series is hopefully the start of a good winter for us. Sylhet was fantastic, the hotel was exceptional. We just had a picture, Sean, me, the physio, Phil Simmons - we were all here in 2016 as well. The guys really enjoyed it (being in Bangladesh).
5:56pm What a way to hit back in the series. Plenty of questions were asked after Zimbabwe outlasted Bangladesh in Sylhet, and while a few of them may still persist, Bangladesh have done the best they could have - beat what was in front of them, and beat that outfit exuding as much dominance as they could.
Today, though, was all about Mehidy Hasan Miraz. He was front and centre as Bangladesh swelled their lead to 217 and was just as prominent a figure with the ball, bagging a five-wicket haul to annihilate Zimbabwe. He found support, like he usually does, from Taijul, who did his bit by kicking it all off in the visitors' second innings. Nayeem got himself on the board too and this game, which was billed as another potentially tight contest, turned into a bit of a rout, all because of how clinical Bangladesh were.
