The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) Trophy champions Bangladesh team with
all smiles returned home Tuesday evening amidst warm reception from
the local cricket fans.
State Minister for Youth, Sports and Cultural Affairs Obaidul Quader
accompanied by BCB President and Deputy Minister for Shipping Saber
Hossain Chowdhury received the team at the Zia International Airport.
The new captain of Bangladesh team Aminul Islam Bulbul said: I am
happy, but there is nothing to be excited about. We have won this cup
and that's it.
"This type of tournament will not help our cause. But in this
tournament we have gradually turned ourselves into a cohesive force,"
he added.
ICC champions and the top favourite of the 10-team fray, Bangladesh
clinched the ACC trophy for the second consecutive times without
facing any strong resistance from their lowly opponents.
By virtue of winning the trophy, one-day debutant Bangladesh entered
the fournation Asia Cup Cricket scheduled to begin in Dhaka on March
20 next year. The three other participating nations are: Sri Lanka,
India and Pakistan.
Earlier, on Tuesday President Justice Shahabuddin Ahmed and prime
Minister Sheikh Hasina sent greeting messages to the team for
retaining the ACC trophy.
