Sri Lanka cricket was plunged into a fresh crisis today after the Interim Committee, which has managed cricket in Sri Lanka since the Board elections were annulled in March last year, resigned after new frictions with the Sports Ministry.
Rienze Wijetilleke, Chairman of the Interim Committee, said that they were concerned that the authorities appeared to be taking Sri Lankan cricket down the path of destruction and after giving of their best over the last year, they could not stay and watch.
The Interim Committee has sent the Sports Ministry a two page letter which clearly states their concerns.
The Interim Committee took over the affairs of the BCCSL last year after the Executive Committee headed by then President Thilanga Sumithipala was suspended in a court dispute over the election. The court case has yet to be resolved.
Fresh BCCSL elections are due to be held on the 11th June.
