Limited Overs International (LOI) cricket will see a new landmark
during the match between England and Sri Lanka in the Carlton and
United Series on Wednesday. It will be the 1400th LOI match ever. It
took only 18 years for this to happen, illustrating the immense
popularity of this type of cricket.
There had been a lot of confusion and controversy regarding the status
of a number of LOI matches. But now there is an agreement about the
status of all matches to date among statisticians and Boards
alike. The only exception being 'Replayed' matches. Although ICC has
ruled that in case of replayed matches (when the original match was
abandaoned), both - the original and the replayed matches will count
as official LOI matches, still some like to think otherwise.
The following table lists the 'Milestone' matches in LOI history
Number Teams Ground Date Season 1 Aus Eng Melbourne 05 Jan 1971 1970-71 100 Aus Ind Sydney 18 Dec 1980 1980-81 200 WI Ind Manchester 09 Jun 1983 1983 300 WI SL Perth 02 Feb 1985 1984-85 400 Pak WI Hyderabad (Pak) 18 Nov 1986 1986-87 500 Ind WI Gwalior 22 Jan 1988 1987-88 600 Aus SL Melbourne 04 Jan 1990 1989-90 700 Pak SL Sargodha 10 Jan 1992 1991-92 800 WI Pak Johannesburg 13 Feb 1993 1992-93 900 SA Aus East London 02 Apr 1994 1993-94 1000 Eng WI Nottingham 24 May 1995 1995 1100 SA Ind Sharjah 17 Apr 1996 1995-96 1200 WI Ind Port-of-Spain 26 Apr 1997 1996-97 1300 Ind Aus Kochi 01 Apr 1998 1997-98 1400 Eng SL Sydney 03 Feb 1999 1998-99* (See note)

totally cancelled, and that the Eng-SL match itself is played as
scheduled, without any cancellations/abandonment.
