Reigning champion Riccarton has drawn newly-amalgamated club Lancaster
Park/Woolston in the first round of the Press knock-out cricket
championship on October 4. Riccarton swept all before it last season,
winning all three titles, including the two-day and one-day club
championships. It began its winning run with four successive wins in
the Press 40-over tournament, beating North Canterbury in the final.
Fourteen teams are in the first round of the event, which will be
played on four successive Sundays, with the final on October 25. For
the first time a women's competition is also being held and has
attracted seven entries. Canterbury Country, which was first drawn,
goes straight through to round two. The women's first round is on
October 11.
