Pakistan v Bangladesh

Utpal Shuvro
15-Apr-2004

At Faisalabad, September 12, 2003. Pakistan won by 74 runs. Toss: Pakistan.
Bangladesh clung on tenaciously for far longer than during their previous thrashing. On a wicket where the ball sometimes stopped a little, Pakistan managed 243, thanks to Yousuf Youhana. He scripted his century in ones and twos, hitting just seven fours and one six, in the last over. Trying to repeat the shot next ball, he was caught at long-on. In fact, he should have gone on 77, but umpire Tiffin missed the nick. In reply, Bangladesh were cruising until Habibul Bashar fell in the 19th over. Rajin Saleh, Bangladesh's find of the tour, went nine overs later, after a fine 64, and the rest collapsed like a house of cards. This was the first one-day international at the Iqbal Stadium since Sri Lanka knocked England out of the 1996 World Cup.
Man of the Match: Yousuf Youhana.
