After being put in to bat, Karnataka defeated Goa by an innings and 137
runs in the South Zone U-14 Tournament match at the SAG ground in Goa on
Friday.
Opener V Pawar scored a double century to propel Karnataka to an
imposing total of 511 for four declared off 114 overs. Pawar's mammoth
323-ball innings had one six and 26 boundaries. He was involved in a huge
245-run partnership off 62 overs with fellow opener V Chelvaraj who made a
brilliant century off 194 balls. He hit ten boundaries. G Dhiman (44) was
given out when he hit the ball twice. VK Vinayak chipped in with a useful 40.
In reply, Goa were sent packing for 187 off 73.2 overs. G Dhuri top
scored with an unbeaten 75. He hung around for 121 deliveries but ran out
of partners. He hit 13 boundaries in his patient innings. Moinuddin was the
wrecker-in-chief bagging five wickets for 64 runs. Goa followed on and were
dismissed for a similar total of 187 in 83 overs. S Bhandekar topscored
with 48. Dhiman bagged three for 51 and Moinuddin picked up two for 30
runs. Karantaka got eight points.
