Shriyan Samararatne will be the new manager of Sri Lanka. The senior Sri Lankan air force officer has been appointed for a two-year term after facing an interview panel of Sri Lanka Cricket.
Samararatne is a former first class cricketer, having represented the air force and Moratuwa as a wicketkeeper in club competitions in the 1970's and 1980's.
He replaces Michael Tissera, who ended his managerial contract. Tissera, a former Sri Lankan captain, had requested the Sri Lankan board to not consider him after his contract expired at the end of May. Tissera's last assignment as manager was the recent Abu Dhabi series.
Samararatne's first assignment as manager will be the home Test and ODI series against Bangladesh starting with the first Test at the Sinhalese Sports Club (SSC) ground in Colombo, on June 25.
