Chilaw Marians clinch Gamini Dissanayake Memorial Trophy
The District tournament 1998 organised by the Puttalam DCA for the
prestigious Gamini Dissanayake Memorial Trophy saw a keen tussle
between Chilaw Marians and Xavierites SC in the finals of the

After dismissing Xavierites for 164 and who opted to bat first at the
Harendra Corea Stadium, Chilaw in the presence of a large gathering,
Marians never found it easy going by the brilliant fielding of
Xavierites. Both sides were equally balanced and good competitive
cricket was witnessed.
Nuwan de Silva (Marians) who captured 4 wickets in 8 overs conceding
40 runs and A. Nishantha (Xavierites) with a dashing 37 n.o. were the
outstanding players. However, D. Rasanga whose score was 24, made it
up with 3 sixes and one boundary. Mrs. Gwen Herat, president, PDCA
was present.
The awards ceremony will follow shortly.
