The National Selectors have appointed Mahela Jayawardena as the Captain for both the ODI and Test teams during the Bangladesh tour. Kumar Sangakkara has been appointed his deputy.
According to Mr. Lalith Kaluperuma, Chairman National Selectors "After completion of two back-to-back ODI tournaments the Selection Committee had made an unanimous decision to rest the following senior players. Marvan Atapattu, Chaminda Vaas, Russel Arnold for the ODIs and Test matches. Sanath Jayasuriya for Test matches and Muttiah Muralidaran for the One-Day matches. These players over the years have done great service to the country and richly deserve a break. It will also help some of them to recover from minor discomforts that have been irritants during the New Zealand & Australia tours".
He also said "this gives us an opportunity to try out a few more young players who have performed well in the domestic tournament so that they gain valuable exposure to international cricket".
The Sri Lanka team is scheduled to depart SLC Headquarters at 12.10am tonight.
