Yorkshire CCC Press Release
08-Feb-2000
Yorkshire's off field activities kept pace with their on field progress
with an excellent financial result for the eighth year in succession by
declaring a profit of £133,697 before tax. The Club's initial fears for
a year without Test cricket were resolved through a profitable run in
both knock out competitions which generated additional funds from new
ECB regulations giving a more equitable share to the successful teams.
Membership income rose by £20 k (net increase of 200 members) despite
a general decline thoughout the country and the Club topped the attendance
league tables for both PPP healthcare Championship and CGU NCL. The rise
of £150 k on players salaries was an indication of the level of backing
given to the playing staff which is now the envy of most other counties.
Robin Smith is nominated as the new President succeeding Sir Lawrence Byford who is to receive Honorary Life Membership.
Long serving Committee Member, Peter Quinn, is nominated as a Vice President on his retirement from the Committee.
The Club faces an eventful AGM with some potentially difficult resolutions. One calling for a vote of no confidence in the Committee is being vigorously
defended whilst another is calling for a return of cricket to Harrogate
and Sheffield. A third, tabled by the Committee, seeks the Members approval
for the Headingley re-development proposals.
Copies of the Annual Report, Accounts and Agenda etc follows by post.
There are Committee elections in three of the 4 Districts. In the central area Chairman Keith Moss is unopposed. In the South, Finance sub-committee Chairman David Welch (Rotherham) defends his seat against Robert Jackson (Sheffield) and Bernard Wilson (Sheffield) whilst in the West, Cricket sub-committee Chairman Bob Platt (Huddersfield) is opposed by Paul Ablett (Wakefield). With the retirement of Peter Quinn (Middlesbrough) in the North there will be a newcomer to the Committee with Carol Rymer (Driffield) hoping to become only the second lady to serve on the Committee by overcoming Robert Hilliam (Scarborough).
