Tom Lammonby

One of a number of Somerset players to grow up in Devon, Tom Lammonby's all-round promise earned him an England Under-19 spot in 2017 before injury robbed him of the opportunity to impress in the 2018 World Cup.

A genuine allrounder, Lammonby broke into Somerset's T20 side as a 19-year-old and showed flashes of promise throughout the 2019 season. His strapping left-arm medium-fast bowling proved expensive - though he could count Eoin Morgan and AB de Villiers among his victims - and he demonstrated his attacking game with punchy cameos from the lower-middle order.

But he enjoyed a breakthrough season a year later, opening the batting in the Bob Willis Trophy as Somerset gave youth a chance. He hit three second-innings hundreds, carrying his bat for 107 at New Road in a must-win game before his fluent 116 in the final, and was the outstanding young player in the competition. His 121 runs in the T20 Blast season came from 68 balls, showcasing his power game.

Lammonby's red-ball form fell off a cliff in 2021, and he averaged a shade below 20 despite a rapid, televised hundred against Lancashire. But he remained a destructive batter in the Blast, and started to win short-form opportunities around the world over the next two winters.

His involvement in the Hundred meant he had no exposure to 50-over cricket, the format that appeared to suit him the most. He eventually made his List A debut in early 2023 on an England Lions tour to Sri Lanka, after 95 professional appearances in first-class and T20 cricket.
