The match was played at the Asghar Ali Shah Stadium Karachi. Pakistan won the toss and elected to bat, opening the innings with Skipper Sulaman Butt and Khalid Latif. Kuwait launched its bowling attack with Farooq Jamshed and Ajesh Mathew.
The two batsmen appeared well set on the crease, providing a century's opening stand to the team. In 23 overs Pakistan was 102 for no loss with Suleman Butt (45) and Khalid Latif (53) playing with tremendous confidence. They were further supported by Faisal Khan who played a solid innings of 45 and Kashif Ijaz who contributed useful 17 runs.
Pakistan was ultimately all out for 196 in 44.4 overs. With a magnificent haul of 4 for 32, Ajesh Mathew was the best bowler. Though a normal total in one-day cricket 196 was a gigantic target for Kuwait, a new entrant in the game.

New Zealand A skipper Scott Styris provided the all-round inspiration behind his side's 134-run success in a 50-over friendly with Gloucestershire at Cheltenham.
Styris struck a rapid 57 in a total of 279-9 and then claimed 3-34 from eight overs, including the important wicket of Australian Ian Harvey, as Gloucestershire were restricted to 145-9, with wicketkeeper Reggie Williams unable to bat through injury.
After Styris had won the toss, Michael Papps and Jacob Oram laid the basis for an imposing score by the tourists with a second wicket partnership of 90 in 17 overs.

Karachi, July 15: Pakistan survived a scare before scrapping to a sensational one-wicket victory over Bangladesh in the opening match of the Asia Cup Under-17 Cricket Tournament at the National Stadium here on Saturday.
Bangladesh, sent into bat by Pakistan skipper Salman Butt, collapsed from a healthy 139 for three to 168 all out in 44.3 overs. Pakistan, in reply, reached the target with their last pair in. Najaf Shah cracked a boundary of a lone ball he faced to bring dramatic victory for the home team with three balls to spare. Nadeem returned six not out.
Pakistan, in fact, were well placed at 150 for three but off-spinner Shafi-ul-Islam triggered a collapse by picking four wickets for 23 runs on a turning track. He was named Man-of-the-Match.
Left hander Salman Butt, Kashif Raza and Suleman Qadir, son of ex-Test leg-spinner Abdul Qadir, each made 35. Salman hit five boundaries in his 54-ball knock, Kashif's 61-ball innings contained three fours while Suleman struck five fours after facing 71 balls. Kashif and Suleman added 77 for the third wicket.

Mr. Ahmed Mian Soomoro, the Governor of the province of Sindh, performed the opening ceremony of the match. On his arrival the two teams were introduced to the Governor. The Governor then formally inaugurated the tournament by playing a one-ball stroke on the pitch. It was followed by group photographs of the two teams with the Governor. The Governor was accompanied in the ceremony by Mr. Nasim ul Ghani the ICC Development officer for Asia and officials of the Karachi City Cricket Association.
Bangladesh opened the innings with Ashraful and Nafees Iqbal against Pakistan's pace attack of Najaf Shah and Nadeem Javed. Mohammad Ashraful was run out after scoring 13 runs, while Shafiul Alam was the next to go caught by Khalid Latif off Altaf Hussain for 22.
At the end of 20 overs Bangladesh was 82 for 2. It lost the 3rd wicket when Nasir Uddin Faruque was caught in the slips by Salman Butt off Munir Ansari for 9, Bangladesh was 90 for 3. Shariful Islam came in to bat. At this stage Bangladesh was confronted with all spin attack of Suleman Qadir and Zaheer Maqsood. Nafees Iqbal who was holding the crease with immense confidence drove Qadir beautifully to cover for a 4. He was 44 not out at the end of 29 overs.

The 6th match of the tournament commenced at Thatta, a small town in the province of Sindh. Batting first Sri Lanka opened the innings with C. G. Perumpuli and Melantha de Silva but lost the 1st wicket at the score of 10 when Perumpuli was bowled by Yasir Butt for 3.
Ehsan Abeysinghe came in and tried to build the innings. Unfortunately Sri Lanka lost 2 more wickets at the total of 53. Ehsan was out after scoring a useful 34. A long partnership between Jahan Jayasuriya who was run out after scoring an exciting 50 and Jeevan Mehdis (27) that followed raised Sri Lanka's score to 155 for 6 in 30 overs.
D. Niroshan (14) J. Hewawasam (34) who took the crease later, however, played some exciting cricket to take Sri Lanka to a respectable total of 231 runs. Basit Butt took 3 wickets for 38.

Some good Zimbabwean batting, although marred by two foolish run-outs, kept
their team in the game and aroused hopes of a good finish. West Indies,
thanks to fine innings by Sherwin Campbell (105) and Brian Lara (86), set
Zimbabwe a target of 287, and after 30 overs they were just over halfway
there - but with a tall task still ahead of them.

Changed bowling tactics could swing it
This match is contested by two teams who have both suffered crushing defeats
at the hands of the resurgent England side during the past few days. Zimbabwe are now assured of a place in the final; West Indies have very little hope of that now, but will obviously need a big victory in this match to keep those hopes alive.

excellent batting pitch. Openers Hinds and Campbell both scored fifties,
and with Lara in to bat they could well be looking at a total nearer to 300
than 200 if they are able to continue in this vein.

West Indies made a cautious start to their innings and had a piece of luck when Bryan Strang appeared to be taken by surprise by a sharp return catch offered by Hinds, who celebrated with two fine off-side drives for four in Strang's next over. Rennie at the other end was more economical until conceding two fours in his fifth over, a cover drive by Hinds and a snick by Campbell.

The West Indian batting finally got its act together on a fine pitch at
Riverside to amass a virtually unbeatable total of 287 for five wickets against Zimbabwe. A century from Campbell and an inimitable 86 from Lara helped to annihilate an innocuous Zimbabwe bowling line-up after they won the toss on a fine batting pitch. However badly the West Indians bowl, the target is likely to be out of Zimbabwe's reach.

Zimbabwe won an astonishing six-wicket victory over the West Indies in a
magnificent match at the Riverside ground today. There were centuries from
Sherwin Campbell for the losers and Murray Goodwin for the winners, scored
under great pressure by a batsman who is about to declare his international
career closed at the age of 27.
