Middlesex Crusaders kept up their pressure for promotion from the National
League Division Two by edging out Durham Dynamos by a single run at
Southgate.
With three runs required from the final ball Neil Killeen and Simon Katich managed only a leg-bye - a disappointing conclusion for their 37 runs stand in four overs for Durham's last wicket.

The match being played at the Asghar Ali Shah Stadium commenced with Malaysia batting first. They opened the innings with Hairul Amirudeen and S. Sathiswaran against Singapore's bowling attack of Maxim Mok Kar Yuen and Siddharth Verma. The Malaysian openers provided their team a solid start when at the total of 86 Ameer ud Din was adjudged LBW to Zeeshan for 38. Sathiswaran the second opener was the next to go, being bowled by Zeeshan for 36. Malaysia lost 2 wickets for 100.
It was followed by a long and defiant partnership between Indran (55) and Vickneswaran (57) that yielded 98 runs. Piling up runs valiantly Malaysia ended its innings at 240 for the loss of only 4 wickets, offering Singapore a victory target of 241.

Michael Bevan's 89 n.o. was instrumental in Sussex Sharks defeating Yorkshire Phoenix by 70 runs in their National League Division One match at Arundel. The Australian now averages 105 from eight innings in the competition. The visitors never looked like reaching their 273 runs target and were out for 202 with three overs to go.
Bevan hit eight fours in only 81 balls at the crease against his former side.
Yet he had been missed at long-off when still in single figures. His compatriot Darren Lehmann had almost matched his performance in scoring 89 in as many deliveries and shared a 68 runs eighth-wicket partnership with Ryan Sidebottom.

An extraordinary fightback from Zimbabwe enabled them to pull off an amazing
victory over West Indies by six wickets. That defeat wiped out any lingering
hopes that West Indies might have been harbouring of reaching the final of
the NatWest Series.
A winning target of 288 seemed a tall order for Zimbabwe and despite losing
three for 79 and then four for 104, they stuck earnestly to their task. Two
run-outs of those four wickets did not help matters but man-of-the-match Murray Goodwin and Grant Flower took up the challenge and kept their side in the game during their fighting fifth wicket stand. It saw Goodwin reach his second century in limited-overs cricket from 130 balls, a just reward for his enterprising batting.

Matthew Hayden's undefeated 96 took Northamptonshire to victory by 4 wickets
with nine balls to spare over Leicestershire at Grace Road. It was his first
National League half-century of the summer and the Australian left-hander
celebrated by hitting three sixes and eight four from 110 deliveries in the
chase for 188 runs.
The target was less than it had appeared it would be at one time - however Leicestershire's last six wickets toppled for 26 runs in seven overs.

Warwickshire kept up their bid for promotion from Division 2 of the National
League by defeating Derbyshire by 45 runs on their own ground. They did so
with a comparatively modest total of 150-8 in 45 overs of struggle on a slow
pitch in which their hosts were bowled out with 25 balls over.
Dougie Brown ripped through the batting with three wickets in nine balls - Michael Di Venuto, one of his victims, is usually an aggressive batsman but took 17 overs over his 15 runs.

David Fulton and Matthew Walker were instrumental in the visitors attaining the required 171 runs in the fifth over after tea which has enabled them to put Derbyshire at the foot of the table in
their place.

after defeating nearest rivals Yorkshire by 203 runs at The Oval. Spinners
Saqlain Mushtaq and Ian Salisbury routed the batting of the northern county.
Though leading by 304 round overnight Surrey batted on with Martin Bicknell
giving courageous support to Alistair Brown who finished on 140 n.o.
Yorkshire needed to score 330 runs to win but the day was dominated by the
bowlers.

force victory in their championship match at Arundel.
The dismissal of Stuart Law at 189-5 caused the visitors to leave off their
pursuit of victory. Danny Law (49), himself formerly with Sussex, and Stephen Peters (22 n.o.) hung on defiantly in adding 42 runs in 11 overs before birthday-boy Danny was out to Michael Bevan.

The New Zealand A team overcame Hampshire by two wickets at Portsmouth thanks mainly to the batting of wicketkeeper Michael Papps. The tourists had been asked to score 337 runs to win - the second highest such target in a four-innings game on the historic 105 year-old ground.
The New Zealanders had started the day in a strong position at 193-2. Jarrod
Englefield and nightwatchman Bruce Martin took the total to 230 when the
former was leg-before to Dmitri Mascarenhas. His partner was out just before
lunch to Chris Tremlett who also had Jacob Oram caught.
The Kiwis went in to lunch at 283-5 and the issue still in doubt. Captain Scott Styris survived two dropped catches to score 43 before John Stephenson made it third time lucky for the fielders. By now the New Zealanders started to panic as
wickets continued to fall. Papps played through the crisis - helped by Lance
Hamilton who hitherto had not scored a first-class run on the tour - and
brought the Kiwis home. Stephenson with 4-68 was Hampshire's most successful
bowler.
