it's all over! Another sweep brings a fat top edge that loops towards midwicket. Ashwin makes it seven wickets for spin the innings.
England vs India, 2nd ODI at Cardiff, Aug 27 2014 - Ball by Ball Commentary
India win by 133 runs and you couldn't hope to see a more complete all-round performance, really. They were in a spot of bother early, in tricky conditions, but from then on bossed the match completely. Raina was outstanding, helped by Dhoni, and they bowled and fielded with verve. England's problems against spin exposed again. A familiar tale for them and already it looks like a case of back to the drawing board. Hales, at least, played nicely on debut and Woakes had a decent match. But that's about it. Michael Vaughan and Graeme Swann said England "don't have a chance" at the World Cup. A few more might agree now. Still, there is time to turn it around. India, thought, look vibrant and confident in their blue kits. We will bring you the presentation shortly.
Partha: "Well done Ravi shastri!!"
When Eoin Morgan spoke to us a few days ago he said that he did not see spin playing a major role at the World Cup. England will be dearly hoping that is the case. This pitch turned a bit, yes, but it didn't offer masses for them. Worth saying that Tredwell bowled well, too, but India were able to score elsewhere.
Presentation time...Alastair Cook "We didn't play very well at all. Credit to Suresh and MS, they took the game away from us and we were slow to react. But it wasn't a 160-wicket. We didn't turn up in any of our departments. We have to dust ourselves down, come back and play better."
MS Dhoni "In the next three matches we'll have more support than the England team which is unusual at time. You can't play one-dimensional cricket, it's a good format to come back into form. The start is always crucial, the first 10 overs was not about the runs we scored, if we have a good stand after 30 overs we will double the score." He then talks about the "right amount of rain" to help his spinners.
Suresh Raina is Man of the Match: "The wicket was really good. I thought if I batted until 45th over we could put a target on the board. I've seen a lot of the Test matches, I was looking forward to this game. I've worked really hard on my batting and fitness."
And that just about wraps things up for today. It's been all India. They are 1-0 up with three to play. The next match is at Trent Bridge on Saturday and we'll be back to bring you all the action. But for today, from Alex and Gnasher, it's goodbye.
a big swipe this time, takes an inside edge to the leg side
now it's the reverse sweep, it comes off the middle but goes straight to short third man
swept again, out to deep square
pushed to the leg side
quicker and flatter, defended
now it's Tredwell's turn...takes this from outside off and slog sweeps over deep square-leg. Cleanly struck.
worked out to deep square
another powerful slog sweep, in the air this time, and it then plugs in the outfield just short of the boundary...a nice shot into the green by Anderson, bit of back spin
pushed into midwicket
drifts into leg stump and is tucked into the leg side
driven to cover
worked off the stumps out to deep midwicket
comes round the wicket, flicked through midwicket to keep the strikes
he brings out the slog sweep, connects well from outside off and sends it powerfully through square leg
more spin, but it turns down the leg side...bounce, too
Can Jadeja bag a cheap five-for?
big spin! That's a lovely delivery. Another England batsman left groping at spin. This one really gripped around off stump, spun sharply away, Woakes had dragged out of his crease and it was a simple stumping for Dhoni
turns into Tredwell who flicks to the leg side but the ball only comes off pad
worked through the leg side, Dhawan quickly in from long-on to prevent the second
Is this a sign of how far Man United have fallen? Alex Hewitt says: "England are the Man Utd of ODI cricket" Here's Jadeja
And they decide it's time for a drinks break. I'd be lying if I said the game was on a knife edge.
a more ugly swipe this time, loses his shape on the shot as he goes to drive and clubs the ball to the leg side
