and that's the match! Asif edges to Swann at second slip and Anderson, who came around the wicket, has now finished with 11 wickets
England vs Pakistan, 1st Test at Nottingham, Jul 29 2010 - Ball by Ball Commentary
Anderson collects a stump and his team-mates crowd around to congratulate him. That was a comprehensive performance from England - excellent bowling, batting the first innings from Morgan and Collingwood, and sharp fielding. So, England have won by 354 runs. And as for Pakistan, where to from here? They have only a few days until the second Test starts at Edgbaston on Friday, but they must put this abject display out of their minds. Their bowling was excellent in the second innings, but apart from that there wasn't much to write home about.
James Anderson finished with match figures of 11 for 71 - the best match analysis by an England bowler since Matthew Hoggard collected 12 for 205 against South Africa at the Wanderers in January 2005.
Don't leave us just yet - we'll have the presentations shortly. Meanwhile "Pakistan were absolutely rubbish with the bat," is the blunt analysis from Ramiz Raja on TV. "They'll be mentally scarred by this performance."
"The first game against Australia was a bit like this. We must remember we won the second game, so this will help us make a strong comeback," Salman Butt says. "This is a young side with limited experience, but they have the talent. There's not that much difference between the sides in batting - had we held onto our chances England would not have run away with this match."
Andrew Strauss: "We're very satisfied. Our bowling was first-class on a wicket that helped the bowlers quite a lot. But we're very conscious it's only the first game in a four-game series."
And the Man of the Match - no surprises here - it's James Anderson: "It's a lot easier when the ball is swinging. You want to make the most of it, because it doesn't always."
That's it from Trent Bridge. What a performance by England. Join us on Friday for the second Test from Edgbaston. But in the meantime, feel free to head on over to our Facebook page to dissect the match. And keep an eye out for all the post-match news and analysis from Andrew Miller and Nagraj Gollapudi at the ground. From myself, Brydon Coverdale, as well as Sahil Dutta and Liam Brickhill, thanks for joining us, and it's goodbye for now.
good ball, Anderson beats Asif outside off with one that nips away
swinging in again, Asif defends
swing in and on line, Asif just gets an inside edge onto it
beaten outside off
turned away to square leg, swinging down that way
stays low this time, but not on the stumps so it does no damage at all
whoops, Finn tries for the slower ball here and something has gone wrong, it lobs up far to wide of off
fuller and straight - Kaneria drives to cover
another bouncer, well directed at Kaneria's head, he just gets everything out of the way in time
outside off and moving away, Kaneria tries to lift it over cover but this time he can't connect
Finn goes short again and Kaneria swings hard again - this time it bounces over the square leg boundary as Trott can't quite get around to cut it off from backward square
is this it? No, it's six for Kaneria! And a cheer ripples around the ground as they appreciate Kaneria's fight. It was a bouncer from Finn, Kaneria just lifted it high and over square leg and over the boundary
pushed across Asif, and it beats the bat
there are some runs as Anderson swings it down leg and Asif gets something on the ball to tickle it past Prior
Well bowled James Anderson. He's been terrific all match, swinging the ball and making life very difficult for Pakistan. Now then - England are one wicket from victory.
Anderson has 10 for the match! And what a great delivery to bring up that milestone! It's angled in, fullish length and swinging away late - the perfect ball - and Malik tries to turn the ball through leg, only to get a leading edge to Collingwood at third slip
not a pretty shot, but effective - it's shortish, chest height and Kaneria lifts it high towards deep backward square and the ball bounces safely well short of the fieldsman
again it's swinging away, Kaneria shapes to play and then swings his bat out of the way at the last minute
too wide of off there, and swinging further away, Kaneria leaves it easily
another fine square drive from Malik, off the back foot and he uses the width from Finn to punch the ball just behind point, well played
