full on the stumps, clipped down to long-on. Rockets wrap up a 29-run win and confirm their place in the play-offs. Welsh Fire, meanwhile, become the first team in either the men's or women's competitions to lose all eight games in a season
Rockets vs Fire, 29th Match at Nottingham, Men's Hundred, Aug 29 2022 - Ball by Ball Commentary
9.54pm: Trent Rockets become the first men's team to ensure their progression, getting above par with the bat and then doing the needful with the ball. Matt Critchley played a decent hand in reply, scoring only the second fifty by a Fire batter this year, but he had little support and there was rarely any sense that they could go at the required rate to put pressure on Rockets' attack. Anyway, you can check out the table ahead of two big games - London Spirit against Birmingham Phoenix, and Manchester Originals versus Oval Invincibles, both effectively quarter-finals with Rockets now through. We'll be back to bring you every ball (because they all count). Cheerio!
Dawid Malan is the Match Hero: "Got a couple away early and then it slowed up and became harder to bat on. That's the point of the group stages, hopefully we can get to the final. Fantastic to qualify, be nice to go straight through and get a game off. We've got a good bunch of guys, it's going really well and we've created a good environment. When you're in the runs you want to contribute to winning games."
pitched up and thrashed through backward square leg via a thick inside edge
fired full outside off, Sodhi swings and misses
Ish Sodhi comes out
swatted to mid-on! Maybe pace off and Cobb can't generate any power, backing away and plinked into the leg side. Well held by Munro
Fire have now scored their highest total this year, which is something
slot ball, battered over long-off! Full and in the arc, Cobb hits it cleanly down the ground
Sam Cook to finish off... 38 needed from five, which is going to be... tough
pace on, out towards the tramlines and Critchley thick-edges to short third
round the wicket, full and wide and through to the keeper
Sams called on for the last two of this set
another high full toss, deflected to deep third! Critchley goes to fifty and Wood is going to be removed from the attack for bowling two dangerous deliveries!
pitched up and steered through backward point, beats the dive on the rope! Aiming for wide (block)hole but Critchley gets it away
half-volley on leg stump, Cobb can only clip it out to deep midwicket
pitched up outside off, 79mph and crashed into the covers
high full toss in the channel, Wood gets it wrong. No-ball and free hit coming
Wood to finish his allocation
The strategic timeout is signalled. Though quite what elaborate strategy Rockets need to concoct defending 52 from the last ten, I don't know...
short outside off, pulled into a gap for two. Came off the toe of the bat but between two leg-side boundary riders
fired down the leg side
carved over backward point, Sams sprays it wide and Critchley cashes in on the drop
dropped on the boundary! Slower ball hoicked into the leg side, but without the power required... only for Wood to misjudge it slightly, then put the chance down as he seemed to slip on the turf
full and wide of the stumps with pace off, Critchley swipes and thick-edges past his stumps
round the wicket, slower ball dinked back over the bowler's head
Sams back on, 63 needed from 15 if Fire aren't to end the season winless
wide full toss and Critchley swings at it, edged through to the keeper on the bounce
flung full and wide, Cobb is stretching and gets it off the toe into the covers, with Wood giving chase
