Announcement: Registration for KwaZulu-Natal coaches
By Patrick Compton
Attention cricket coaches in KwaZulu-Natal. By April 1 you must register with the KwaZulu-Natal Cricket Union if you want to continue practising your profession.
From that date, coaches must be registered if they want to coach at any school in the province, coach at any union-affiliated club or ground and attend any coaching courses presented by the union.
These are no threats, they simply represent a decision by the union to bring coaches throughout the province under one umbrella.
The acting director of Amateur Cricket, KZNCU, Frans Cronje, said yesterday that the reasons behind the move were fourfold:
  • To have a database of all cricket coaches in KZN, at all levels, with their qualifications;
  • To be able to refer players and and their parents to coaches on the database;
  • To be able to present coaching courses to all coaches to ensure quality coaching;
  • To be able to communicate the vision of South African and KZN cricket to all coaches.
  • Cronje said that coaches would be able to attend coaching courses to get better qualified, as well as get their names on an annual coaches' booklet that would serve as advertising for them.
    The registration fee is a nominal R20 a year. Coaches wishing for further details should contact Cronje through the KZN Cricket Union at Kingsmead, telephone (031) 3329703.
